Veterans Independence Program Process for Home Care Assistance Barrie
The Veterans Independence Program (VIP) offers nationwide home care support, providing financial coverage for various services designed to help veterans maintain their health and independence at home or within their community.
1. Program Enrollment Requirements
Veterans must first be registered with Veterans Affairs Canada to access care services. Medavie Blue Cross serves as the designated service provider, and enrolled clients will possess a Medavie Blue Cross identification card.
2. Initial Service Request Process
When clients seek treatment services from our registered provider network, our Client Care Manager will ask to see the client’s VAC Health Care Identification card for verification purposes.
3. Eligibility Verification and Pre-Approval
Our Client Care Manager will verify the client’s eligibility for requested services. Following confirmation, the Client Care Manager collaborates with the client to complete the “Nursing/Personal Care Pre-Approval Request Form” provided by Medavie Blue Cross.

4. Pre-Authorization Confirmation
Clients must work with the Client Care Manager to secure pre-authorization approval from Medavie Blue Cross before services can commence.
5. Claims Submission Process
Following Medavie Blue Cross approval, both the client and Client Care Manager (acting as Service Provider) must complete the “Provider Claim Form and Nursing/Personal Care Claim Form.”
6. Coverage Limitations and Payment Responsibility
While there’s no maximum usage limit, each client receives specific time allocation approval valid for one year. Clients must discuss any payment limitations with their Client Care Manager prior to service delivery. Should Medavie Blue Cross coverage be insufficient for full payment, clients are responsible for any remaining balance.
